all about microneedling and benefits

Microneedling is definitely a favourite, and there’s a great reason for it. At the Art of Facial Rejuvenation we are proud of our varied non-surgical procedures and there is always something here for everyone, regardless of their age or skin type. One procedure that we have generally seen as effective all across the board is microneedling, and we want to share this enthusiasm with you, so you can get a greater understanding of what it encompasses.

So, what is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a highly effective treatment that promotes the production of collagen to aid in the rejuvenation of one’s skin. This treatment is generally suitable for a large number of people because of it uses one’s own body to heal and rejuvenate itself to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and uneven skin tone.

How is Microneedling achieved?

Our highly experienced medical professionals use a medical device called the dermapen for every procedure. The Dermapen is a pen-shaped device with a circular head that comprises of tiny needles that penetrates the skin in a stamping motion throughout in various frequencies and intensities. Our medical professionals apply a highly enriched serum containing hyaluronic acid and trace over the serum with the dermapen, massaging the vitamin and collagen enriched properties into the skin.

How deep will the Microneedling go?

It all depends on your skin type and the level of intervention that is required. As the sessions increase, our medical professional increasingly uses a higher frequency to penetrate a deeper layer of the skin (maximum penetration of 2 mm); when this occurs, we generally see the greatest results post treatment.

Will I experience pain during a Microneedling procedure?

Due to the penetrative nature of this procedure, some may feel a slight sensation on the more sensitive areas of the face – areas like the upper lips and forehead. However, to ensure maximum comfort, a topical lidocaine cream is initially applied and left to absorb for 15 minutes. This will significantly reduce the experience of pain.

Will I experience bruising post-procedure?

Many patients will have sensitive skin immediately post procedure, and it is highly recommended to apply sunscreen before leaving the clinic. The skin may appear red for 24 hours after the procedure with some minor bleeding, tightness, and itchy feeling. However, the needles penetrate only the top layer of the skin, so scarring is seldom experienced, and in rare cases, some scarring may temporarily be present, which fades away in a few days.

Who is Microneedling not suited for?

Microneedling is not recommended for individuals who have taken Accutane (isotretinoin) in the past 6 months, individuals who are pregnant, or those who have a prior history of poor wound healing or keloids.
