What You Need To Know Before And After Your Dermal Filler Treatment

Are you considering dermal filler? Do you have an appointment coming up or do you just want to find out more? Regardless of your reasons Art of Facial Rejuvenation wants you to know what to expect before and after a dermal filler treatment. The best way to feel confident is to be armed with information that allows you to make an informed decision or arrived mentally prepared for your treatment.

Preparing for Dermal Filler Injections

We have several tips that apply to every type of dermal filler patient. This includes hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers such as Belotero, Juvederm, Restylane. When you follow our pre-care and post-care suggestions, you are allowing your treatment the most reasonable chance at producing positive results.

Prior to Your Appointment

With any type of dermal filler, at least, a minor amount of bruising is to be expected. There are ways to reduce the amount of bruising you develop. You can also use our tips to speed up your body’s recovery time.

Reduce or eliminate caffeine from your diet during the week before your appointment. Increase the amount of plain water you consume in the same time frame. This will help your skin to increase its moisture content which will reduce bruising and ensure a speedy recovery. Use a topical moisturizer the day before and the day of your appointment for an extra boost.

Before your treatment take 2,000mg of Vitamin C supplements daily, try to start this as early as possible. This will help boost your body’s inherent restorative properties which will reduce bruising and decrease your recovery time.

If you take blood thinners, cease consumption at least seven days before your scheduled appointment. This will help cut down on bruising and swelling following treatment. You should also cease alcoholic beverage consumption four days prior.

Patients that use exfoliating acids and retinoid products should avoid their use at least three days prior to treatment. This is because they may cause or increase redness and irritation following treatment. You should also wait until three days after your treatment before resuming their use.

After Your Appointment

Dermal filler treatments are minimally invasive, but they are still mildly traumatic to the skin. Our suggestions will help you reduce your discomfort and improve your results. Now that your treatment has been completed satisfactorily, there are a few tips you should follow to ensure the best results.

Avoid rubbing or massaging the treatment area immediately following your session. There may be slight swelling, tightness or discomfort however this will naturally resolve within ten days.

You should also forgo any form of exercise or extreme heat for at least a full 24 hours following your treatment. Exfoliating acids and retinoid should not be used on the treatment area for at least three days.

It is advised that you keep your head above the level of your heart for at least four hours following your treatment. You should also sleep in the upright position the first night following your treatment. This will help reduce swelling in the treatment areas.

Bruising and swelling of the treatment area can be remedied with ice packs and oral or topical anti-inflammatory aids. Just bruising can be reduced by applying a thin layer of Vitamin K or by consuming a Bromelain supplement.

Any severe or unusual side effects like shortness of breath, fever, trouble swallowing, or painful swelling should be treated in the emergency room without delay.

Our Minimally Invasive & Non Invasive Skin Care Options

A lot of people who have skin conditions or who are unhappy with their skin texture are interested in cosmetic treatments. The long healing times and fear of pain also prevent a great majority of those same people from going under the knife. Most people prefer to avoid invasive treatments such as facelifts or chin lifts, and end up staying unhappy with how they look. Thankfully, there are many minimally invasive and non-invasive cosmetic procedures to choose from. Here at Art of Facial Rejuvenation, we offer mild treatments for age spots, acne scars, loss of skin elasticity and more. Some of our treatment options are listed below.

Chemical Peel

One of our popular treatments is our chemical peels. This is a non-invasive way to exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells. The result is skin that has a more even tone, appears fresher and is rejuvenated. We are able to apply a chemical peel to any part of the body safely. There is no set time or number of treatments needed when it comes to a chemical peel. Each patient has unique skin and is also seeking different results from their visit. We have a light peel and deep peels. Our dermatologist will schedule a treatment plan that is tailored to your skin and your budget.

Another one of our most popular non-invasive procedures is microdermabrasion. This treatment is effective on acne, acne scars, dark spots, and photo aging. Microdermabrasion works by using hypoallergenic materials to abrade the top layer of skin. The most commonly used abrasives are aluminum oxide crystals though some patients may prefer to use the diamond microdermabrasion tool. The top layer of skin is exfoliated which leads to brighter skin, reduces fine lines and a more even tone. Each session can last up to fifteen to twenty minutes and in some cases multiple sessions are needed to get the best results.

With how popular it is, we are sure you have heard about the benefits of Botox. This minimally invasive treatment is an injected muscle relaxant that allows patients to enjoy a more youthful appearance. Botox tightens the skin and helps to banish wrinkles, lines, and creases back to where they came from. The actual treatment only takes around five to ten minutes, and the results can be seen within a few weeks. Regular treatments will be required every three to six months to maintain optimal results.

What You Should Eat To Help Battle Hyperpigmentation

Your skin is your largest organ and it’s important to ensure you maintain proper nutrition if you want to be healthy. Skin conditions like acne, eczema, and hyperpigmentation won’t be healed by eating junk food or walking around in the sun.

What Can Cause Damage to the Skin?

The sun is the strongest in the summer but is equally damaging all year long. The UV rays from the sun and pollution are two of the main causes of premature aging. You can start seeing this damage as soon as your early 30’s which is why it’s important to start protection early.

As we grow older, sun damage, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation become more apparent. Correction and prevention start with an effective skin care routine that consists of proper nutrition, exfoliation, and protection. While there is a range of topical treatments available, there are several skin care aids that work best when consumed.

Eat Your Way to Healthy Skin

There are many foods that have been scientifically proven to offer a range of benefits for the skin. Some are able to fight the signs of premature aging, stop DNA damage in its tracks and even improve acne and hyperpigmentation. Art of Facial Rejuvenation has put together a brief list of foods you should add to your diet to help reduce your hyperpigmentation and improve the look of your skin.

Red Fruit

Red fruits and vegetables are a delicious way to help improve heart health and fight many forms of cancers. Items like papaya, grapefruit, tomatoes, and guava are just a few of the lycopene-rich items you should add to your diet. They also help your skin by fighting the DNA damage that is caused by oxidative stress.

Pink & Orange Fish

Many forms of aquatic life are jam-packed with skin-boosting carotenoids. Shrimp, crabs, lobster, algae, salmon and red trout are just a few options. All of these little red colored creatures give your body a powerful boost of the antioxidant astaxanthin. It’s fat and water soluble and helps your body to protect itself from free radicals in inflammation.

Green Leafy Vegetables

Dark green vegetables, as well as leafy green vegetables, are very good for your skin. Items like zucchini, peas, kale, Brussels sprouts, and broccoli are all exceptional examples. These types of vegetables help keep your eyes healthy as well as reduce the oxidative stress your skin experiences. When you eat dark leafy greens, your body gets a boost of essential carotenoids for healing.

Green Tea & Grapes

Grape seeds contain proanthocyanidins. Whole grapes, green tea, and a few other items contain reservatrol and epigallocatechin-3-gallate. These three have all been proven to help prevent melanoma and boost skin health.

How We Can Help

Keeping your skin healthy and combating the effects of aging is more than just a passing fad. To have soft, glowing, healthy skin it’s important to incorporate skincare into your daily regimen. Microdermabrasion – How Often Should You Get It Done

Your skin regenerates around every 30 days. Skin treatments and improvement from those treatments will need to be refreshed to maintain the effects. Microdermabrasion is an extraordinary way to get rid of dead skin cells in a gentle manner. Because of the frequency of skin cell regeneration, microdermabrasion from Art of Facial Rejuvenation needs to be performed at frequent intervals in order for additional improvement to be effective.

How Often Should I Get Treatment?

Depending on your specific tolerance levels, you can safely undergo microdermabrasion as frequently as every three weeks or as late as once every two months. Your specific frequency will mainly depend on what results you seek and how well your skin tolerates the treatment. It is recommended a minimum of four treatments in order to see the best results. Typically, patients will undergo a once a week treatment for three weeks followed by a once a month maintenance session to maintain their results.

How does it Work?

Microdermabrasion uses a mixture of inert sodium bicarbonate, magnesium oxide, and aluminum oxide crystals to abrade your skin. These crystals are then sucked away along with dead skin cells and debris.

What does Microdermabrasion do?

The vacuum our skincare specialist uses during the microdermabrasion sessions fulfills a substantial role. It helps to separate and raise small sections of skin for treatment while also encouraging blood circulation. This treatment will also significantly improve the following: fine lines, large pores, clogged pores and blackheads.

What Should I Expect?

Following a session, your skin will be silkier, more satiny and will also feel rejuvenated. Prior to starting, our specialist will cover your eyes for protection. Your skin will then be cleansed to remove makeup, oil, and other debris from the surface. The skin will then be gently stretched to allow for an effective microdermabrasion treatment.

The skin may exhibit a mild amount of pinkness following treatment, but it will disappear within a few hours. Using a moisturizer as well as sunscreen is recommended following treatment. In some cases, mild discomfort similar to a light sunburn may last for several days.

Are There Side Effects?

The procedure is generally safe and there is little to no risk of negative side effects. When microdermabrasion is performed by a qualified professional, the only temporary side effects that may occur are:

  • Photosensitivity
  • Light Bruising
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Tightness of skin in the treatment area
  • Redness
  • Spot Bleeding
  • Cold Sores around the lips

Is Microdermabrasion Suitable For Everyone?

People who suffer from mild acne, hyperpigmentation, dull skin, light acne scars and pick marks will find the treatment useful. It’s also a viable option for those who have mild skin problems but no time to seek more in-depth treatments. Anyone over the age of 12 can receive microdermabrasion treatments.

Are You Ready For Healthier Skin?

If you are ready to get rid of fine lines, dullness and superficial scars Art of Facial Rejuvenation is here to help. Our dedicated dermatologists are standing by to give you the skin that you have always dreamt about.
